The Giveness website helps individuals find and support nonprofits that are in line with their values.
The Giveness Online Shopping System allows individuals, who either don’t have disposable income with which to make cash donations or who want to contribute in addition to their regular donations, to support their favorite causes by doing their online shopping via Giveness.
Individuals can also promote their chosen nonprofit to their friends by using embeddable widgets (small software applications) on social networks to which they belong. This allows individuals to feature Giveness shopping in their Facebook, MySpace and other social networks – and proceeds will support their chosen nonprofit.

Individuals can support causes they are interested in and/or involved with simply by making their regular online purchases via Giveness. The Giveness website also provides the ability for individuals to connect with other like-minded people who support the same or similar causes. Giveness also provides individuals with technology tools that help them promote their chosen nonprofit to their friends and family.
How to Participate
Using Giveness to support your favorite nonprofit is easy and you can choose how you want to interact with Giveness. Most individuals choose to register with Giveness before conducting their online shopping. This allows them to select the nonprofit they choose to support and establish a profile page that enables them to shop for their nonprofit in the future without having to reenter their preferences.
Individuals can also shop anonymously via the Giveness website or via the embedded widget that nonprofits or individuals post on their web pages.
How Does It Work
Individuals can shop online in support of their selected nonprofit in several ways:
To shop via the Giveness website:
- Access the Giveness website and select a nonprofit to support
- Register as a member or shop anonymously
- Select a merchant to shop with and link to their site
- Complete an online purchase as they would if they had initially gone to the merchant website
To shop via the nonprofit’s website:
- Find the Giveness shopping area on the non-profit’s website
- Select a merchant to shop with and link to their site
- Complete an online purchase as they would if they had initially gone to the merchant website
- May also be given the option of linking to the Giveness website to shop
To shop via a friend’s social network site (Facebook, MySpace or blog):
- Access their friend’s web page and locate the Giveness shopping box
- Select a merchant to shop with and link to their site
- Complete an online purchase as they would if they had initially gone to the merchant website
- May also be given the option of linking to the Giveness website to shop
